When the covid pandemic struck initially, most working offices initiated WFH and everyone started working remotely. Not all offices were benefitting from the work from home situation, they needed their employees in the office and most were going into heavy losses too. NextExp wanted to make an app that would help the US navigate through the pandemic without raising the active count of the people infected with covid. The idea was to come up with a mobile app which would fetch user medical data from the government database (while respecting user privacy of course) and display it on the app so immune users could move through secure areas by using the app as a gate pass without coming in contact with too many people.
Since a user wouldn't want to use an app that only had a basic functionality of a gate pass we figured it would be a good idea to add value and functionality to the app so a user could actually gain more information out of the app and find it useful. We decided to add covid hotspots and statistical data on the spreading of the virus in the US, test results and antibody results which it would fetch from the database, and a display QR that could be scanned at a beacon to gain access to the area as added functionalities so it would be more useful as an application. We also decided to display helpful tips on how to avoid catching the virus.
Coming to the design of the app we decided to implement a 2020 design trend known as neumorphism which would give the app a more realistic feel by making the button interaction animation feel like an actual button while keeping it simple and minimalistic.
